Alright lads and lasses?
8 years of following..6 gigs later..i've pretty much convinced myself to start the 'Paradise' collection. Only the CD's at the moment!
My girlfriends reaction was "Ben you're like a teenage groupie". My reply was simply - "It'll keep me out of trouble, what with so much to look for".
Really determined to collect a fair few bits over the next few years. I feel I owe the band - alas they helped me in the bad and good times!
My collection consists of 7 CD's so far.
All four main albums + Deluxe West Ryder. Processed Beats Maxi CD and Shoot The Runner Promo CD.
The main reason for the post was to reach out to other collectors.
Have you any tips to share? Do's and don't's? What is a fair price to pay? I don't really have the money to make mistakes, especially when some of the listings on some websites look fake. Any help or advice would be appreciated before my collection goes further.
Peace.

Nice work, i'm glad you've decided to start collecting, be warned you'll get addicted, trust me Over 200 items and counting in my collection and I still find something new to buy every week, it's crazy. In terms of fake items, you're quite lucky on that front, as there aren't a lot of them about which is a good thing, there is one to watch out for though and that is the Fast Fuse 10" Promo, but seen as you're collecting cds first you'll not have to worry about that one just yet. A couple of good sites to keep a track of the releases are: www.facebook.com/ksbncataloguekasabian-empire.tumblr.com/paradiseIf there's a particular release you're not sure about just post a message in here and someone will help out.

Paradise collections are addictive definitely. It should be easier to start with CDs though, most of them can be found on ebay/ through discogs. Some of the rare ones are West Ryder and first album promos, West Ryder sampler, paradise 1 - processed beats, an east european edition of West Ryder.
Also there are some really interesting releases which don't have a paradise number - you'll find out soon for yourself what a mess it is really, especially in West Ryder and Velociraptor eras.

Thanks for the replies. @ Cutoff. Can you give me an insight into some releases which don't have a paradise number? I heard recently most of the newer releases, particularly Velociraptor, don't have numbers. I use kasabian-empire.tumblr.com/paradise at the moment to have a wonder at the amazing collection, but also take note that some Paradise numbers aren't taken up! Mindboggling.. but surely that must make collecting much more challenging and satisfying. It'll be years till I can afford to pay £70+ for an old promo CD but for now i'm happy starting on the cheaper ones (and also on the hunt for affordable rare un's!). @crazyhorse. Yeah i'm about 3 days in and definitely starting to become addicted. Trying to be careful with the spending though, can get well out of hand! EDIT: www.discogs.com/buy/CD/Kasabian-West-Ryder-EP/63535692?ev=bp_titl is this EP CD one of the releases without a Paradise number?

That particular release is a German CD, it came free with a German magazine, and yes that doesn't contain a Paradise number.

There are lots of different unnumbered releases - there are Japanese / US / European ones which don't have paradise numbers and the Japanese releases are usually very different and interesting - although I'm trying to stay away from them as it's too expensive, just have the albums' Japanese editions. Some promos during West Ryder and Velocirpator eras don't have paradise numbers, despite some of them being assigned one. On Empire tumblr I'm trying to build a list of unnumbered releases too - kasabian-empire.tumblr.com/unnumbered - but it'll be ages until it'll be more or less comprehensive - at the moment I'm just posting more or less interesting/special releases there once a week. That West Ryder EP is one of my favorite releases, i got it as a present from a friend and I'm always fascinated how random is the song selection there and the artwork is totally different.

Yeah I read that on one of the listings. Do the foreign releases carry more rarity?

Hey Ben, I've been a fan for years and started collecting the Paradise catalogue at the start of this year. This is everything I have so far: My Kasabian Paradise CollectionMy boyfriend thinks I'm mad "why do you want multiple copies of the same song/album", but he just doesn't understand! haha I started out buying cds as well, but now I pretty much buy what I can afford whenever I can. My most expensive purchase so far (other than the Velociraptor! Super Deluxe Box Set) has been Paradise07, which I paid £100 (+£13 shipping to Australia). I obsessively regularly check ebay and Discogs. Discogs is really good because you can search by catalogue number, build your own wantlists and keep track of your collections. I've come to the conclusion though, that there are probably some cds or vinyls from the collection that I will never own Have fun with it though, and as cuttoff said, IT'S ADDICTIVE!! haha

Yeah I read that on one of the listings. Do the foreign releases carry more rarity? It's pretty subjective as to what people think is rarer. There's collectors who will only buy items with Paradise numbers on and won't touch anything else and pass on all the other stuff. That's probalby a good way of making sure that the collecting doesn' t get out of hand. There are some super rare items that don't have Paradise numbers on and I do believe that a lot of these get overlooked by some collectors. I'm quite fond of the RCA promo CDs that have surfaced recently from the USA for WRPLA and Velociraptor (one being a full instrumental CD), these are watermarked and super rare, probably less of these exist than things like Paradise07, you very rarely see them anywhere at all.

You're right, it's so subjective if it doesn't have a number. It might depend on so many things - the tracks on it, artwork, degree of rarity - and also if it's a remix or an intrumental not widely available - on how much you want to listen to it.
My personal non-numbered favourites are Switchblade Smiles black envelope promo, Underdog with Sasha remix and Japanese Empire album with my favorite version of Stuntman as a bonus track. Oh and the American Fire 10" with Road Kill Cafe as a b-side.
Crazyhorse - Those RCA promos sound delicious - I would give a lot to get the instrumentals - nevermind the collection, just to listen to the ones we don't have! Haven't seen it anywhere yet though.

@cass Great to hear from a fan half a world away! Are you Aussie born? It really brings home how lucky I am living 30 minutes from Kasabian's home town. From your collection blog you seem more enthusiastic than me - didn't think this would be possible. My girlfriend would testify to this.. Your collection images are also great and make me want to go out and buy more, and more. Ha ha, I understand where he is coming from, I sometimes wonder how many Empire singles I'll have in a few years! Thanks for the advice, I've now signed up to Discogs. And yeah, you have to enjoy it! @crazyhorse and cuttoffOkay thanks for that. I just asked as I have no particular idea about what is rare and what is not. And with the experienced collectors on here I thought there may be a written code as to what is rare and what is not. It's refreshing to hear that rarity is dependent on many factors, and is usually up to the fan to decide how much rarity an item carries with it. This is how it should be! Though I concede some items will always be high priced (Paradise 01 and 07) but for now i'll enjoy the challenge of finding some cheap but electric music!

Yeah I'm Aussie born. I wish I lived in the UK though, you've got such a great music scene. We miss out on SO MUCH over here, like when Kasabian do come here, they play one show in the major capital cities and that's it. IT'S NOT FAIR!! haha If I was in the UK I'd have no money because I'd be following them wherever they played. It would also be a lot easier to get my hands on the Paradise catalogue too! lol

Ahh! I'd say at the moment Sheffield boasts the the most vibrant music scene in the UK (other than LDN). Some great bands have come from there in recent years.
Oh and PARADISE 25 has just come. Nice dash of yellow added to the collection.
